Rekha Thapa Becomes Owner of 'Kathmandu Super Champions'

For the first time in Asia, Nepal is going to conduct women's domestic cricket league. The tournament is named as NCL Women’s T20 Cricket League. Legendary actress Rekha Thapa has owned a team in the league. She will be handling 'Kathmandu Super Champions' who has national team's former captain Neri Thapa who will be leading her team.

Rekha has recently been involved in many activities regarding women empowerment. 

The teams were disclosed on Monday during a press conference where actress Thapa exclaimed that she has been working for women welfare for 14 years. She has promised to work for the betterment of women sport in the country so she has owned a team in the league.

Four teams — Biratnagar Roaring Lioness, Bhairahawa Queens, Dhangadhi Wonder Women and Kathmandu Super Champions — will take part in the franchise-based Twenty20 cricket tournament slated for April 20-27 at the Baijanath ground in Biratnagar.

National team captain Rubina Chhetry Belbashi is the marquee player of Bhairahawa, while vice-captain Sita Rana Magar will lead Dhangadhi. Likewise, former captain is marquee player of Kathmandu and Karuna Bhandari belongs to Biratnagar.

Top two teams will earn one million rupees and Rs 500,000 respectively.

The teams will be formed through auction in a couple of days.

The organisers have set the base amount of Rs 40,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 for grade A, B, C players respectively.
