The ninth NEFTA cine award, to be held in Dubai on Friday, has been embroiled in controversy.  The organization, under the leadership of Pushkar Lama, has come under much criticism even before the award function has been held. The jury committee has expressed disbelief at the Chairman’s attempt on taking actors close to self instead of those with chances of earning the award. It is assumed that the organization is planning on awarding those who will be present at the function instead of those who really deserve it.

Moreover, the organization has also been criticized for selling the name of the artists who will not attend the function. Artists like Anmol KC, Bhuwan KC, Dayahang Rai, Priyanka Karki, Saugat Malla, Rekha Thapa, Richa Sharma and others have been promoted as the guests of the event but it has been learned that the actors will not attend the event.

Actor Bhuwan KC has said that Anmol was promised of ‘Popular Actor of the Year’ award if he attended the event but Anmol happily declined the offer. The chain of events has raised many questions regarding the function like, is it ethical to promise somebody of awards in exchange of attendance?
