It has been reported that film “Makhmali” is not based on the story of Charimaya Tamang who is actively working against human trafficking.  In the letter pad of organization president Sunita Danuwar and coordinator Charimaya Tamang has signed and sealed the letter pad organizing the press meet, the organization Shakti-Samuha of Charimaya declared that the organization is not involved in producing the movie “Makhmali” and convinced that the movie is not based on the life of Charimaya Tamang. 

Director Raju Giri said that the film is being made incorporating the story of a Nepali girl from poor family sold at brothel in India. The film stars Suvekshya Thapa in the role of Charimaya in the film. The confusion about the movie was spilled by media personality Rajan Ghimire in the weekly magazine of “Ghatna and Bichar”. After the article was published a “Status” discussion was formed between the production house and media personalities and the words of disagreement spilled in social networking site Facebook. For this reason, the Shakti Samuha is not involving in the production of the movie "Makhmali".

Charimaya Tamang was honored by International awards (Hero Acting To End Modern Day Slaver Award 2011) for her campaign against human slavery. She spent 22 months in a brothel before the Indian government rescued her along with over 200 other Nepali women in 1996.
