Historic success of 'Kohinoor' hits 51 day mark, director Adhikari honored with a cash bounty

Late actor Shree Krishna Shrestha’s swansong, ‘Kohinoor’, has completed its glorious 51 days in the theaters. The film, which was released on August 8, is still running with packed audiences in 11 cinema halls over the country. The film has been successful to break all box office records of the land while doing a business of more than NRs. 110 millions till date.

During the celebration of this historic achievement held at Indreni Complex, New Baneshwore, on September 27, Saturday, director Akash Adhikari was honored with NRs 5 lakhs by the distributor of the movie, Sunil Manandhar, for making this movie an unprecedented success. Manandhar, whose company -- Sri Ram Balaji Films, was the Kathmandu Valley distributor for the magnum-opus, declared that such commercial records will not be seen in the forseeble future. "An unthinkable has happened in terms of business. Director Adhikari has achieved that which will not be rivaled for some years, hence this award is my appreciation to the main man behind the project", said an elated Manandhar. A special trophy was presented to Adhikari along with the cash award.
Minister for Information and Communication, Dr Minendra Rijal, handed over the cheque to director Adhikari.  The whole cast and crew of the film, including the faces behind the cameras, was honored with a trophy during the celebration. Minister Rijal, who was the chief guest of the program, gave away the trophies to the whole ‘Kohinoor’ team. Late Shree Krishna Shrestha’s mother received the award on her son’s behalf.

Similarly, the cinema halls where ‘Kohinoor’ has been successful to complete 51 days, film distributors, film journalists and various media houses were also honored for their contributions in making the movie a monumental success.

Late Shree Krishna Shrestha’s wife and actress -- Shweta Khadka, was not able to attend the event because of some health issues, a family source informed.  

During the program, the makers of the movie demanded a suitable location to build a statue of the late actor and also requested to get his photo printed in the postal tickets of the nation.

Late Shree Krishna Shrestha passed away at Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi on August 9, just a day after the release of ‘Kohinoor’, because of bone cancer related complications.
