Journey of A Chartered Accountant in Film Industry

Tanka Dhamala, born in Kailali currently resides in London. He is a chartered accountant (CA) in London. He is called as Leo Tank rather than Tanka in London. 

Leo, when came to Kathmandu, started working in a radio station. He had a love for movies since his childhood days. He went to London for film studies. He studied film course for a year after which he quitted and moved his course to CA thinking film studies won't benefit him.

He liked to watch Nepali movies from his teen days. He says, "My friends liked the way I told them stories so they always asked me to tell the story of any of the movies I had watched."

Journey from Kailali to Kathmandu

Leo completed his high school from Kailali and moved to Kathmandu for higher studies. He worked in a radio station in the capital.

He says, "My family supported me a lot when I was in Kathmandu so I never had a problem there."

He also disclosed that the love for media field grew while he was working in the radio station. He says, "in those days too, I had no clear vision of what I was going to do in my life."

From CA to Nepali Film

Leo disclosed that he had an attraction towards movies from his childhood. So he used to convince his mother to let him learn dance, music, karate. But his mother never allowed him to do so because Leo regularly used to be sick in the past. 

Leo, "My mother had the fear as I was very weak in my childhood days and used to fall sick time and often. So despite my interest in dance, music, karate, etc. she never let me learn those things thinking I would be unhealthy."

Leo has a vision of taking Nepali movies to the international market. He wants to stay in Nepal and work for the betterment of the industry. But he thinks that earning a living from Nepali films is a difficult task to do.

Working in Nepali movies when your work is there in London is a hard work to carry out but Leo says that he would manage that in any circumstances. If his works are increased in Nepal, he promises to shift to Nepal. 

He expressed his opinions regarding hit and flop of movies. He says, "my goal is to work in media field so it doesn't really affect me whether my films will be hit or flop. I will be doing my dream job, working what I wish to work and will be happy whatever maybe the consequences. So, a film being hit of flop doesn't really affect me."

"I am a chartered accountant in London, my life's all set there but I am a little unhappy in the hearts as I am far away from my very own motherland. I love Nepal especially Nepali movies. I can quit all the works in London and shift to Nepal but that's kinda impossible now.

He is debuting in the Kollywood from the movie 'Sarauto' for which he is quite excited. We can justify he has a bold character in the movie with the looks of him in the trailer.

Talking about his enrollment in the movie, he said "A brother of mine was well known about my interests and love for Nepali movies. He made arrangements for the meeting of me and Sarauto team. And finally, I got enrolled." He is thankful to the media for arranging such a big opportunity.

Love

Leo jumped to class 4 directly from class 1 so he never had affairs in his school days. He says, "All girls were senior to me so I never fell in love when I was in school."

But he had an affair when he was in class 12. He disclosed that there was no love between them. He added he has never fallen in love with anyone even though he had a lot of affairs.

"I love my mom very much. I can do everything for her. I have never felt the same for any girl. So probably I have never been in love.", said Leo, "But I get a lot of proposals."

Leo in English Film

He has already worked in an English film released on Netflix. We can see him in the movie 'Karma' in the lead role. He expressed his happiness when he gets to work in bigger projects like these.

The film was made by a Hollywood film team and he praised the management of the work. It's so good to work with them seeing their management. But unfortunately, we can't see such managements in Nepali movies which is sad aspect of our industry.

He is also an official model of Swiss Airlines. He has been signed for the advertisement of Audi car as well. He has already worked in theatres in India but to work in Nepali movies is what he wants.
